Having a relationship with God is much simpler than you may think. You talk to Him just like you would talk to anyone else, but with the understanding that He is your Master, your Everything. Praying comes in many forms, sometimes short and to the point, sometimes full of praise, and sometimes long and thorough. In any case, you are simply having a conversation with God, and through these talks He will begin to use you, heal you, restore you, and most importantly, become your friend.

Below are some prayers that will help you along the way as you begin to develop your relationship with Him, and as you begin to grow in your prayer life. Use these prayers at your leisure, and begin to develop some of your own. In no time, you will begin to feel God’s presence in your life and in all that you do.

Accepting Jesus into your Heart

For those of you who have not had a relationship with Christ Jesus before today, let’s first start out by helping you begin a wonderful journey with Him as YOUR personal savior as you choose to accept Jesus into your heart.

Dear Jesus, thank you for all that you are and for loving me in spite of my sins. I have made some mistakes in my life, but I am so grateful that you can overlook all that I’ve done, and restore my heart to one that is new and like You. Jesus, please come into my heart and take away all of my sins so that I may live my life with You. Help me to be strong in this new journey and to resist temptation. Thank you for all that you’ve done for me, and all that you will do for me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Prayer of Praise

Lord thank you. Thank you for all that you are to me. Thank you for my family, my friends, my job, my home, and most of all thank you for not giving up on me. For giving me strength to get through each day. Patience to know that you are with me and you are providing me a way forward, ensuring that my path forward is perfect in your eyes. Thank you for the love that you give me every day and for providing all of my needs. I love you Lord and am so glad that you are my God, my Master, my Redeemer and my Rock. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer of Strength

Lord, sometimes it doesn’t feel like I will make it. Sometimes I just want to give up. Sometimes I don’t know which way to turn or where to go from here. It’s so hard. Life is so hard, and it hurts. Please stay close to me Lord. Don’t give up on me. Don’t take your hand from upon my head. Comfort me, dry my tears, give me peace. Stop the hurt that is so deep in my heart. I know that you have a plan for my life, because your word says so. Just help me to keep pushing through until I can see and understand your plan Lord. Give me strength Lord through each day and help me to endure each moment of pain, anger and hurt. Thank you for loving me Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Prayer of Understanding

Lord, it’s hard for me to understand what you’re doing in my life. Your word says that you love me, but I don’t understand why I have to go through hurt like this. It doesn’t seem fair. It doesn’t seem right, and it doesn’t make sense. Please help me to understand this. Please help me to see clearly, to see and understand Your vision. Is there a purpose in all of this misery? What will come of me? When will this end? I don’t understand Lord. Please help to see with Your eyes and to have the wisdom that You hold so precious. It’s hard right now, I just want to understand. Thank you Lord for your patience with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer of Patience

Lord, I know You have a purpose in everything that you do. I just wish I knew what that purpose was sometimes. I wish I could know what You are thinking right now. It seems that what I’m going through is unfair, and it doesn’t make sense. Please Lord give me the patience to wait, to wait on Your word and to hear Your voice in my heart. Help me to be strong as my patience grows and I learn to see what You’re doing in my life and through me to help others. I will wait on You Lord. I will trust that You understand my needs and You hear my cries. Thank you for the patience that I know I receive from you Lord every day. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Prayer of Faith

Lord, here we are. Here we are at another step in my life. You have kept me, You have provided for me and You have kept loving me. This step that I’m at now though, is tough. It’s a hard one Lord. But when I look back, You’ve always protected me and kept me safe and strong, so I know You’ll keep me in this phase of my life too. I know that You have a reason for everything that you do Lord. I will remain faithful to You and will continue to abide in You and in Your word each and every day. Lord show me how I can be a blessing to others as I journey down this path of uncertainty. I know that with You, I can accomplish everything and anything, and I also know that without You, I can do nothing. My faith is in you, and you alone Lord. Thank you for all that you are to me.
